Making Theater 24+7

Our award-winning drama program kicked off its 2013–14 season with its second annual 24-Hour Play Festival. The event began at 7 pm on a Saturday night in November, when groups of playwrights, directors, and actors were divided into teams and given a prompt word or phrase connected to current events. Kate Case ’13: Anti-Human Trafficking Advocate

Kate Case has spent the past three years advocating against human trafficking. Her goal? To eradicate slavery globally in her lifetime. It’s an ambitious pursuit, with an estimated 12 to 27 million people enslaved in sex or labor exploitation worldwide. But Case, a Global Studies major and 2013 graduate, is beginning to see results.

Profile: Professor Suzanne Mallery

Neuroscience professor Suzanne Mallery thrives on mixing it up. She has academic degrees in microbiology, theology, and psychology, a working knowledge of nine languages, and active areas of interest that include peacemaking and conflict resolution.

“The most challenging and interesting problems today are those that are solved by interdisciplinary approaches,” she says. “These are issues like terrorism, climate change, and negotiating peaceful and creative solutions to conflicts.”
