Top 5 Reasons We Love Living on Campus

There are actually so many more than just five reasons why students love living on the La Sierra campus! Our residence halls really do become a home away from home. Not only do you form fun and long-lasting relationships with your hall mates, you can also really make your space your own! And, the University has made some great upgrades to the residence halls recently, like new tile and granite countertops in restrooms and kitchens, new comfy mattresses, and remodeled and refinished lobbies.

Surf + Snowboarding

Feeling like sand or snow today? At La Sierra, you have the option of both! Our SoCal location gives students easy and close access to outdoor fun. Take, for instance, snowboarding. Students can take a .5 credit course, which begins instruction on an on-campus skip ramp. Then, class moves to the real powder at nearby Mount High Resort. Students can also take classes in rock climbing, scuba diving and kayaking. Or, they can just hop in a car to enjoy the day at one of the famous Southern California beaches just miles away.

Music is the Soul’s Own Speech

The 30 select singers who make up the La Sierra Chamber Singers share their musical talents not only with the university community, but with thousands of others each year. They tour throughout the U.S. and internationally, sharing sacred music of many genres, including classical, spirituals, and hymns. In the past several years, they have performed with the Riverside County Philharmonic, in churches and concert halls throughout the Southern California, the Midwest, and many European countries.

Senior Art Show

Adaiah Thompson and Katie Pershing were two of the art majors featured in senior art showcases this past fall. Adaiah’s show—“Broken & Whole”—featured a line of high-fashion gowns made entirely from newspaper. Katie’s show—“An Ode to the Troublemakers, the Brazen and the Bold”—drew upon her grandmother’s life growing up in Lowell, Nebraska during the 1930s and 40s and included books, prints, paintings, and balsa wood meadow larks.

First Service

At 8p.m. every Friday evening, you’ll find hundreds of La Sierra students in the sanctuary of the La Sierra University Church. Why? Because they’re taking part in the popular campus worship First Service. Things are kept pretty simple at First Service. It’s a time for the community to come together and engage in praise and worship with lots of student lead music and programming as well as entertaining, thought-provoking speakers.
